KARLYNN GORREBEECK

MEMBER SINCE:  2017

PROGRAMS: MUAY THAI & JUNGLEGYM

SUCCESSES: So far, I've lost 15lbs and I'm on the Budo Ryu Muay Thai Fight Team! I'm proud of my mental state and my ability to deal with stress and anxiety. It has helped me push myself further and faster than I had been able to before! I competed in my first Muay Thai event at the USMTO West tournament and was a semi-finalist!

IF I COULD TRAVEL BACK IN TIME AND TELL ONE THING TO MYSELF ON MY FIRST DAY AT BUDO, WHAT WOULD IT BE:

Commit. Don't hold yourself back and put yourself out there!

WHAT'S NEXT: I'll be competing in the WCK Muay Thai show in Burbank in June. My next goal is to get one percent better in the gym everyday.

JENNIFER ACKRIDGE

MEMBER SINCE:  2016

PROGRAMS: KRAV MAGA & JUNGLEGYM

SUCCESSES: So far, I've lost 25lbs. When I first came to Budo, I thought my goal was to lose weight. And that is still part of my goal, but it is no longer #1 on my list. I am proud of what my body can do with movements and weights! Heavy lifting days are my favorite. I love hitting and surpassing lifting goals. And Krav, oh man. I have found such a joy in it. One of my proudest moments is when Eric thought my pluck wouldn't work, so he applied a really really hard choke and I successfully defended it! Participating in helping another overcome PTSD is another joy. Overcoming my own PTSD! Fighting through workouts or a rough moment in Krav has taught me that I'm a lot stronger than I give myself credit for.

IF I COULD TRAVEL BACK IN TIME AND TELL ONE THING TO MYSELF ON MY FIRST DAY AT BUDO, WHAT WOULD IT BE: This is the best decision you will ever make for yourself!

WHAT'S NEXT: I want to test for my Krav Yellow Belt, become a Level One Instructor, and possibly learn more and get certified to teach JungleGym! Maybe enter the Strongman Competition at the MidState Fair. And losing some more weight is in there too ;)

SHANNON SLAYTON

MEMBER SINCE:  2013

PROGRAMS: KRAV MAGA & JUNGLEGYM

SUCCESSES: So far, I've lost 55lbs! I've gained so much in return...Little things like not getting winded going up the stairs or playing with my daughter pain free are huge for me. Getting to participate in life and shop where I want without fear. I now know I can accomplish anything I truly desire. I fulfilled my dream of becoming a Krav Maga instructor and also trained to become a fighter in Muay Thai.

IF I COULD TRAVEL BACK IN TIME AND TELL ONE THING TO MYSELF ON MY FIRST DAY AT BUDO, WHAT WOULD IT BE: I would tell myself to relax and trust the process.

WHAT'S NEXT: I plan on losing 30 more lbs on top of the 55 I have lost. This year I am also opening my own gym in my home state and getting my NASM. I plan on sharing all the things I learned at Budo with everyone I come in contact with.

CAMMI SILK

MEMBER SINCE: I discovered budo through the 6-week get fit challenge, October 2016

PROGRAMS: JUNGLEGYM

SUCCESSES: So far, I've lost 20lbs (15lbs of fat and gained 5lbs of lean muscle!)  I am super proud of my commitment and discipline; routinely going to classes 3-4 times a week, as well as running mountains on the side :). I am proud of how my commitment elevated me to a new level of confidence; strengthening my mental, emotional, physical and spiritual self. I am proud of the fact that "almost" every time I work out, I "work to get results". I give myself my best when I show up. and tell myself "easy is not an option"! Because of my commitment, my life has expanded significantly. I changed my job and basically took on a whole new career, now teaching middle school students. This change has been one of the biggest challenges I have ever faced and I know without a doubt, I would not have done this nor been successful, without the Budo transformation in my life.

IF I COULD TRAVEL BACK IN TIME AND TELL ONE THING TO MYSELF ON MY FIRST DAY AT BUDO, WHAT WOULD IT BE:  I don't know if I needed to tell myself anything, I was ready for it, but perhaps I would let myself know, "this will change your life". How's that for a motivator?!

WHAT'S NEXT: Continue on! In the summer, when I have more time, I will try out Muay Thai. I can't wait!

EMILY "SPARTAN" ORTIZ

MEMBER SINCE:  February 2016

PROGRAMS: MUAY THAI & JUNGLEGYM

SUCCESSES: When I first walked into Budo, I was 230lbs. Today I currently weigh under 183lbs, which is a loss of 47lbs! The success I have gained are: a higher self-esteem, body confidence, physical, mental and emotional strength and a sense of community.

IF I COULD TRAVEL BACK IN TIME AND TELL ONE THING TO MYSELF ON MY FIRST DAY AT BUDO, WHAT WOULD IT BE: don't worry, in two years, you'll have the body you want, so keep working!

WHAT'S NEXT: My current goals are to lose 40 more lbs in order to compete in my first amateur Muay Thai fight! After my amateur debut, I am aiming to earn myself a championship title with a shiny belt!
